Estimated Value submitted by Frank

Hi Stephanie,

I estimate your Art Nouveau brooch by Theodor Fahrher to be worth around $1800-2200 dollars.  Antique jewelry pricing can depend a lot on finding someone who just falls in love with the piece, so you might have difficulty finding a buyer in that price range.

1934 Chicago World's Fair dogs

Submitted by: Dianne

PLEASE HELP

I have 3 cast iron dogs that act as pencil holders, 1 blue, 1 white, 1 red. Blue and red have a circular tag advertising the 1934 World's Fair and white eyes with black pupils. The white one has no tag and black eyes with white pupils. All are in very good shape, but Red and blue a little more so.

Estimated Value submitted by Tim

Hi Dianne, Your 1934 World Fair pencil holders are worth between $25-85 dollars a piece. They normally have square tags, so that's unusual and as you said the white one is missing its tag. That would affect the price too, probably placing it in the lower range. Here's numerous examples showing similar 1934 world fair dog pencil holders: http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/index.php?main_page=documents&content=search&s=dog&c=Worlds+Fair&Search=Submit

If you can find a name on the frame that tells the designer if any I will be able to help you better. Most picture frames sell for around $20 even limited editions unless it is made by a certain designer. Please send more information if available. Thanks,

Gold-tone White House Cufflinks

Submitted by: carol
Main Image

PLEASE HELP

I am in the posession of a pair of what I believe to be gold-tone White House cufflinks. The White House is central with 14 stars above and 5 stars below the image. The main part is constructed like a two piece button pressed together, hollow inside. there is a clip which attaches the button with an relatively long, thin, oblong portion which would be inserted throu the cuff, and its shape would hold it in place. I would assume the date is 1952 or before. ( I say this because I also have an gold-tone elephant pin with '52 on it, no other info on this item either) Thankyou

Copeland Spode Pink Tower 16" x 12" Platter

Submitted by: Marsha
Main Image

PLEASE HELP

This is a pink platter with the logo on the back, and on the widest parts of the platter there are designs, differentiating this from usual Spode Tower platters. There is a dark crack on one part of the underside, but it doesn't not show up on the pink side. There is also a very faint logo in white raised letters in an oval, but I had trouble reading it. I am, however, attaching a photo of that too. I will upload the tureen that goes with the platter to a separate item.

Wood carving picture

Submitted by: melanie

PLEASE HELP

I was given this picture by my friend when his mom passed away. His mom was an artist specializing in leatherwork She travelled around the world and found many treasures and artifacts that were unique one of a kinds. This picture was one of them. I am not sure where she got it. She went to Arizona, Africa, South America, Europe etc. There is what appears to be a family crest painted on the birds wings. The parallel lines are carved very precisely. I believe they are symbolic of water. I think the birds are Herons The colors of the Crests painted on the wings are scarlet blue gold. I wonder what material isthat it is carved on as it seems like wood (the carved side but on the back it appears to be corrugated with little squares perhaps imprinted into it by whatever held it flat and steady while worked upon.It is a little thicker than a 1/4 inch. The overall dimensions are 12"x 18" What is this type of art piece called? Where may it be from. I imagine it's value is as high as the demand for something like this.lol Thank-you

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Antient Roman Legionary clay brick with a soldier`s left footprint, wearing the typical sandals with nailed soles Original stamp: LEG I...[ADPF] DIMENSIONS: 42cm x 36cm x 5cm (16" x 14" x 2") WEIGHT: 10 kg (22 lb) HISTORY OF THE ITEM: The Romans made fired clay bricks, and the Roman legions, which operated mobile kilns, introduced bricks to many parts of the empire. Roman bricks are often stamped with the mark of the legion that supervised their production. LEGIO I ADIUTRIX PIA FIDELIS Following the murder of Roman Emperor Domitian in 96, LEG I Adiutrix, along with the Danubian army, played an important role in Roman politics, forcing Epmeror Nerva to adopt Trajan as his successor. When Trajan became emperor, he gave the legion the cognomen Pia Fidelis ("loyal and faithful") to acknowledge their support. Between 101 and 106, under the new emperor's command, I Adiutrix, along with IV Flavia Felix and XIII Gemina, conquered Dacia and occupied the newly formed province. Trajan also used his Pia Fidelis in the campaign against Parthia (115–117). In the history of ancient Rome only 8 Roman Legions received the honorary title Pia Fidelis. The clay bricks prduced by the distinguished legions included the abbreviation "PF" or "P.F." right after the name and number of the legion - i.e. LEGIADPF. POSSIBLE DATE OF MANUFACTURE: 1st Century C.E. PROVENANCE: German private collection CURRENT LOCATION: Since the late 1950's the item is located in Dortmund, Germany.
