Antique Tucketts Abbey Pocket Tobacco Tin

PLEASE HELP

Hello. I have two tins, one is a Forest and River tin which I can find lots of information on. This Tucketts Abbey tin however I can find almost no information on, and the only one I can find for sale is 100$ and it is not in very good condition. The tin I have is in quite good condition as in the pictures, and I would like to know if it is as rare as it seems in this condition. Thank you in advance for your help.

Submit your estimate of worth

Estimated Value submitted by Tim

Wow, your Tobacco tin is in great shape!  The book value on this collectible is $200 dollars and considering the condition of yours, I would say it's value is in the $150-225 range.

Here's another one in similar condition currently for sale in Canada for $150 Canadian dollars:

Estimated Value submitted by Becky

Hi,

From 1834 till 1907, The print shop \\\"Currier & Ives\\\" produced in excess of 1 million lithographs which included more than 7500 different titles. 75% of what you will see now are reproductions which are still being produced today. I have included a few links for you to verify if what you have is a reproduction or an original.

http://www.currierprints.com/Reproductions.htm

http://www.currierandives.com/identify.htm

http://www.philaprintshop.com/currorg.html#prints

Below is an appraisal from the Antiques Roadshow. Keep in mind this person had 4 originals.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/archive/201006A06.html

A print of The Star of Love can be bought for as low as $59. A original can be worth up to $5000. The most valuable are winter scenes, followed closely by railroad prints.

I hope this helps,

Thanks,

Original and rare Mack Pedal Truck/car from 1918 or possibly early 20's. I would appreciate any and all input you can provide on its worth/value. Thank you in advance

Submit your estimate of worth

Estimated Value submitted by Tim

Hi Ed,

Your pedal car could be from as late as 1927.  Here's an advertisement showing your \\\"mack\\\" pedal car for sale by Butler Brothers in 1927:

http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/images/butler-brothers-ad-1927-001.jpg

http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/images/butler-brothers-ad-1927-002.jpg

I love the original price tag of $21 dollars.  Considering the average wage in 1927 was 50 cents a day, I think its safe to say this pedal car originally belonged to a wealthy family!

Your 1927 American National \\\"Mack\\\" pedal car is worth around $1200-1500 dollars.  Here's one currently for sale in that price range:

I found these two ginger jars at a thrift store recently. I had no idea what they were even used for, but found some info on the internet to atleast find that out. I have searched endlessly and have only found one site with a similar jar, but the lid had been glued from being broke. It was estimated at $400~$500. It has the exact same mark on the bottom as mine, like you see in the pictures. I cannot find out who the maker is with the two blue rings on the bottom. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Was told it to be from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. The casting is of a very good quality cast iron.I have several cast iron collectors interested and was wondering as to the value. Thanks, Harry

Estimated Value submitted by Tim

Hi Harry,

You have a very unique piece and to the right buyer, I think you good easily get between $100-200 dollars for it.  It would look great hanging on the wall of any serious trolley collector.  However, I have seen similar pieces selling for a lot less, for example, here's a trolley cast iron plate that sold for $32.88 last year:

http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d-1352127/Rare-Antique-Cast-Iron-Trolley-Car-Plate-Sign-Winona-MN-Late-1800s.html

Thanks for sharing.  Your antique trolley car sign is a piece of history and would be a valued addition to any trolley or even a train collector.

The bowl is also RoyalStone Ironstone but is marked from Tompkinson Bros & Co. It also has a coat of arms and is stamped T.&.B.Co. Also appears good shape. No cracks, chips. Also have set of Noritake china, pattern is Carltonia. It was originally service for 8 but there are missing pieces. Dinner plate, salad plate, small bowl, coffee cup/saucer, sugar and creamer. Few chips. Just interested if any are of any value. I have been told they should be, but not sure. Thank you for your informatin.

Found this old Garland stove while cleaning out my mom's garage. Can't find any info on it. No idea if it works. One of the back legs is coming off. But it looks really old and like it might be an antique. I can't tell if it says No. 20 G or C. Does anyone know if it is worth anything. It needs to be cleaned up, but I don't know how to do it.

Estimated Value submitted by Becky

Hi Etrag,

In1864 the Garland Line began in a small Foundry in Detroit, which grew to become the Michigan Stove company in 1873, and produced over 200 varieties of stoves under the name Garland. In 2008 Garland became part of Manitowoc Foodservice and are still manufacturing various Garland equipment today. Below is a link to the Garland history.

http://www.ehow.com/about_5367008_history-garland-stoves.html

Your Garland stove is worth between $375 and $500 depending on the condition for a Gas stove. The wood stoves sell for less. In 2010 a gas stove sold for $475 in an online auction another in 2011 sold for $380. In 2007 a wood burning stove sold for $10 but it was not in good condition.

Thanks,

Handmade metal & brass ( I believe ) spittoon I think

Submitted by: Robbie
Main Image

PLEASE HELP

This is a handmade object consisting of 2 different types of metal. The first one forms the entire lower half . The neck is made of the other metal from where the neck and the body are joined. It looks to be brazed using brass rods and heat. The object is made of a very hard type of metal and I am unable to hit it or press it with my hands to make a dent. I believe I could stand on it, or drop it from 6 foot tall and there woouldn't leave much more than just minor scratches. The brass looking metal joins the other metal with joinery similar to the way a puzzle pieces join together. I am not sure how it happend or when it happened but the bottom was beaten until it caved in making a somewhat flat spot on the bottom . I assume so that it can be sat on the ground so it doesnt fall over. It is 155mm tall, 115mm wide side to side, and 110mm front to back. The neck is 60mm outside, 35mm inside the hole side to side.It is 13mm thick from inside hole to the outside of the hole. The neck is 40mm around. The little tabs that connects the two different pieces are 7-10mm long.

"The Empress Theodora and her Court Mosaico" framed

Submitted by: Dee
Main Image

PLEASE HELP

This is marked on the back with an aged label that reads "The Empress Theodora and her court", as well as "MOSAICO DEL VI SEC. M.P. 804"...it is very worn and I may have not gotten some of the letters correctly. It is also stamped MADE IN ITALY. It is in a simple gold frame that is very worn but looks as if it might have been retouched a bit. It measures about 12 1/2" x 16 1/2". It's a bit heavy and looks almost like stone with the images imprinted on it...never saw this type of item or medium before. Can't find any info except the historical background and some tapestries. She was a Byzantine Empress married to Justinian and the original mosaic which is more colorful and detailed is in the Basilica at San Vitale, Italy. She seemed to be quite controversial and influential in her era. The picture itself seems to be in very good condition and details are intact. The back is an enigma as well and seems to be a brown paper bag color and looks like pieces of parchment or something pieced together. Any info you can give me as to what this is or its worth would be greatly appreciated. I purchased it in a little shop that couldn't provide me with any info on it whatsoever. I have never seen an Italian mosaic so I don't know if this is a print on a stonelike board or what...it does say "Mosaico" and "made in Italy" on back but I am stumped...I would like to resell it at some point. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Debi,

A lot of times the value of a art piece is in the framework. I don't know if what you have is an original or a print. In 2010 a color print of “Songs of Love” was valued at $150, replacement value was $250. It was in excellent condition with the original frame. Please see below:

http://www.eppraisals.com/UploadedImages/appimg_383563.JPG

Yours does show some damage, probably caused by the matting that was used around the painting. To preserve a painting you need to use what is called “Museum Mount”. The mat doesn't have the acid in it that eats into the art.

Here is one like yours not framed, selling for $8. It looks like it has more damage than the one in your picture.
