Submitted by: Brian

PLEASE HELP

In the early 1900's there was The Sicilian & Asphalt Paving Co. Of New York and that's where this S came from. There was this story of the owner and how he took the S's of his trucks and gave them to very few People. I don't think this is the S of the trucks but I believe it's off a building.

Hi April,

To the right collector your Seth Thomas grandfather clock is worth around $500-1000 dollars, but it might be difficult to sell in that price range.  I think a more realistic price would be around $350-400 dollars, since there is only a limited number of buyers of grandfather clocks.

Hand gold paint beautiful cobalt blue antique vase, 2 pieces, separate base and bowl. It is in perfect conditions with no scratches or paint deterioration, the only fault is that one of the teardrops is missing the top small crystal as seen on the left teardrop. The top bowl of the vase is I.D. with a fingerprint. When bought 20 years ago I was told that is dated end of 18th century.

Wow, that's a beautiful portrait vase!

Your antique victorian-era bohemian portrait vase is estimated to be worth around $300-400 dollars.

It's pretty rare, but here is a similar portrait vase from that era:

http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d-1193622/antique-bohemian-moser-style-green-portrait-vase-drilled-for-lamp.html

Estimated Value submitted by Tim

Hi Orlando,

I think my first estimate might have been a little low.  It's not a vase, but a bohemian portrait compote.

http://caseantiques.com/item/lot-57-bohemian-glass-portrait-compote/

http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/11542847_bohemian-cut-overlay-portrait-glass-compote

In excellent condition, they sell in the range of $600-1200 dollars.  I can't tell from your photos on the condition of your antique.

Your bread plate is just like the one on Little House on the Prairie and is indeed from 1885 as shown in the Montgomery wards catalog:

http://beyondlittlehouse.com/2009/04/23/the-mystery-of-the-oval-glass-bread-plate/

So, both collectors of bread plates and little house of the prairie collectors would be interested in buying it.  Bread plates from this era are fairly common and sell in the range of $30-100 dollars.  However, since yours is the same one as the little house of the prairie, I think it might be work a little bit more in the $100-150 dollar range.

Hi Darla,

Your Dr. Pepper soda fountain machine is pretty rare and obviously needs restoration.  I'm guessing, but I think in this condition its worth around $300-600 dollars.  Fully restored, it would probably sell in the $2000-3000 dollar range.  I believe its from the 1930's time frame.

Coca Cola Golf Clubs and Bag

Submitted by: Chris

PLEASE HELP

I have A set of Celebrity Coca Cola Custom VIP Series 3-P. I not sure of the age. Ive had them since around 2003 so Im guessing 80s or 90s. They are in good condition, I've never hit with them and Im not sure if the owner before me did either, just normal ware. I also have a Coca Cola golf bag. Its looks to be Older than the clubs but again I'm not sure of the age. The bag is a cart bag and it says enjoy coca cola on both sides. Its in good shape too. It has no cuts on tears and all the zippers still work. Please Find out the value and possibly the age of theses items. Thanks.

Submit your estimate of worth

Estimated Value submitted by Andy

I've seen Coca Cola golf bags sell in the $30-100 dollar range:

http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/index.php?main_page=documents&content=search&s=golf+bag&c=Coca+Cola+Collectibles&Search=Submit

and as high as $500 dollars.

The golf clubs are probably worth around $150-200 dollars.

It would be all about finding the right buyer, but a diehard coca cola collector might be willing to purchase your clubs and bag for around $300-350 dollars.

Take this appraisal with a grain of salt.

I have two identicle Black Americana figurines of a child sitting on a bale of cotton eating watermelon. I've done hours of research and found very little and nothing exactly like these. My grandma traced over the carved writing on the bottom with ink. I can't make out everything but the part I can read says, Army, New Orleans. Oct 1957. I would love any information regarding history and value of this pair. Thanks -Star

Hi Star,

I  don't support their purpose, but the stereotype of blacks eating watermelon was probably created during the antebellum era to degrade black people:

Your black figuries are worth around $50-100 dollars.

Highly Ornate Carved Wood Antique Throne Chairs

Submitted by:
Main Image

PLEASE HELP

I bought these two chairs at an antique shop about 10 years ago. I believe that they were re-upholstered before they went on sale. I was told that they were from England but, I don't know much more. The wood is in great condition. The upholstery job needs to be re-vamped. It looks like the feet have lions paws and the upper front part of the wood chair has a bird head on either side of the carvings I saw something on ebay a few days ago from an antique store in Arkansas that had re-upholstered a bunch of throne chairs and there were similar carvings. They were being offered at a price of $1300 each. I would really appreciate a knowledgeable estimate of their worth.

PLEASE HELP

I inhierited a 1920 stutz pumper fire truck. it is in good condition.I have done some research, but very little information. There was one (same year) on ebay listed for $39,000 from a museum in St. Louis. It did not have wood spoke wheels (mine does) or a stutz motor(mine does). The motor was a wisconsin. I read somewhere that there were only six of these units made in 1920, as this was the first year for Harry Stutz Fire Engine Co. I have many photos.

Submit your estimate of worth

Estimated Value submitted by Tim

Hi Kristin,

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I would say your 1920 Stutz Pumper fire truck is worth around the $15,000 - $25,000 dollar range, but obviously you think its worth quite a bit more.

http://www.antiquecar.com/category/For-Sale/Fire-Engines.html

Something like this would definitely be all about finding the right buyer.  I'm sure they're out there, but not many people have the room to collect fire trucks.  A museum would be interested, but they usually want donations and almost never pay top dollar.

Good luck selling your fire truck and it probably is worth double the above range to the right buyer.

Need help valuing this piece

Submitted by:

PLEASE HELP

I just became the owner of this antique vanity, which I got from a friend who flips storage units and discovered a whole collection of antiques recently. (This unit was flipped in Dallas, Texas.) She had a friend familiar with antiques look at it and this enthusiast believes it was made by Upham Furniture Co. I don't see any tags or stamps indicating that anywhere on the piece, so I'm curious how I can go about learning as much as possible about this vanity. It is the first piece of furniture I've ever felt emotionally connected to, and it's staying with me whether it's worth ten bucks or ten thousand. However, I would love to know it's story, and determine if it's rare, how old it is, and whether it is better to refinish/restore it or leave it be with all its age and imperfections. I don't want to do anything to devalue it. Any expertise you have or any direction you could give me regarding how I could research it further is highly appreciated.
