Hi Mary, It depends on what your Chelsea clock company US maritime clock looks like. Do you have the brass model or the black phenolic resin case style? The brass maritime clocks typically sell in the $500-700 dollar range, whereas the black phenolic resin case clocks sell in the $250-350 dollar range. If you upload or email us a photo, we should be able to narrow the price range down some more.

I have 3 of these lighters (bought on
eBay) I think they are from the 1950's
One works well - brushed steel finish.
One (unused & in original box- gold finish, aluminum case)- I filled it but valve leaks. The third
one (silver plated & in bits), valve leaks & thumb-wheel screw worn out
due to heavy usage - so unless spares can be obtained - unusable ! I am a
pipe smoker & the one that works is the best pipe lighter I've ever had.
? Are spares/repairs available in UK & Are they worth anything as antiques ?
Regards, Dr. S.B.Cook.

This rocking chair is sturdy and in good shape. No creaking or wobbling. Some slight separation in seams on the seat. A missing wood hole cover on one side of the back of the chair, wear on the stain and on the bottom rocker pieces. There is a tag under the seat that reads "The Ford & Johnson Company, Michigan City, Indiana. According to Wikipedia "In 1868 the company relocated their factory to Michigan City, Indiana. In 1872 the company moved their headquarters to Chicago where they opened a showroom at 302 Wabash Avenue. They became known as J. S. Ford, Johnson & Company." It seems that since the company changed its name and relocated, this chair should be dated to between 1868 to 1872.

my parents picked these 2 statues up after WWII in Japan (have cloisonne vases with CPO on bottom & acquired same time). The top 1/2 are mirror images & as noted they're marble. they stand 7 5/8" tall and are 2 5/8" on all sides. there are two serpentine dragons on the top half with what looks like a ball? appears that they are 4 toed. on the lower 1/2 there are figures carved one on each face and each is a distinct character. could be just bookends but seems like a lot of work with a hard material for just bookends. they have some aging cracks and chips. at least 65 yrs old & could be much older. there is a lot of fine detail that doesn't show up in the photos, like the dragons are scaled, the areas above and below the figures have engravings w/ the top different from the bottom but relateable, all the tops and bottoms have the same motif.
I will greatly appreciate any thought, all I know is that I don't know anything concerning these 2 statues, value, origin (other than asia), what they "are", who knows, maybe sawed off of something else.

These figures, 8 individuals + 2 mystery balls & stands, 2 pagotas
& animal were purchased in Japan during the occupation after WWII and by the looks are a set, all of the bases are the same. believe mom may have painted them black. there are no identification markings on any surface, my rudimentary knowledge of Ivory leads me to think it is mammoth (schrager lines visible in the base of the mystery ball stand)certainly not made of bone (no little back pits), the surface is polished. I have not been able to identify any of the figures. the pagota pieces are missing a few miniatures, 2 trees on the larger and 3 figures on the smaller one. the animal a lamb, rat ??
any ideas about value, origin and what if any significance to all of the pieces being a grouped together.
thanks much.

I found this stove in a barn in upstate NY. it was made by the Dixie Foundry Company, Cleveland, TN. I know it pre-dates the 1950's, but i dont have any other information. There is one handle broken, but all the knobs are in tact. It appears to have dual ovens, a warming tray, and a place that might have had a burner or two. I would like to know more about the piece, and an estimated value if possible. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Age early 1800's ? Hand cast pinned pommel (brass). Bone or Ivory handle W/diamond checked hand carved pattern beautiful golden patina. The 7.25" blade folded into the handle with spring steel lock. When closed is 4" blade exposed. Has a hand cast brass dime sized paddle when flipped and pressed the blade is released to flip open to full 7.25" length. The blade is only .75" wide by 1/8" thick. This leads me to believe was made for dual purpose hunting and personal protection. Everything on this knife is to me obviously hand made and assembled. There is a small etched dove/swallow/falcon type mark @ base of blade. This is not stamped! Very even and no evidence of displaced metal as with a stamp. Not as deep as well as other stamped blades I've seen.

Hi
Miriam,
This is a Kestner
doll head. The Kestner doll company started producing dolls in the
1820s and produced dolls until approximately 1938. The earlier dolls
were only marked with a number or size. They didn't mark with a mold
mark and Made in Germany until later.
Your antique Bisque
Doll Head is worth between $30 and $45. If the eyes were still place
it would be worth between $65 and $110. Thanks,

PURCHASED: FROM M. E. BELLOWS' SON, AGENT & IMPORTER OF WINES, SPIRITS & CO., 77 BROAD STREET, NEW YORK
The bottle is square with beveled edges [see the photos]. It has been in my family since the bottle was purchased in the 1800s. My family lived in New York City. I grew up with a family trunk that is handmade from solid oak planks that contained all of the family heirlooms. Many items from the Civil War and the Spanish American War. This bottle and a spy glass are two of the things I inherited. I have been told many different things about the value of this bottle. Bonhams in New York City is interested in auctioning it. I am concerned about doing so without know more about the value of the bottle. I need to educate myself first before I could consider selling it. Please, can you help me?

Hi Barbara,
You have a very beautiful piece but the
estimated value here in the states is between $1500 and $3000. That
is the range for very similar antique Chinese armoires.
There is one for sale exactly like yours
in Melbourne, Australian asking price is $950.
Please see below: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/camberwell/antiques/chinese-antique-cabinet/1016196868
Antiques are extremely hard to export
from China now and in most cases it is illegal. This fact could
increase the value.

Hi Brittany, You and your husband have an antique gate lock, from the picture yours seems broken (the hasp is missing?). There are many reproductions, but yours appears authentic. Its probably from the mid to late 1800s. They sell in the $50-150 dollar range, but since your lock isn't in the best shape, its probably valued in the lower end of that range. Here's a similar gate lock that sold in the past: http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d-83913/antique-latch-long-bar-gate-entrance-iron-padlock-wkey.html

I have a clown head cookie jar that appears to be hand painted. The lid is the hat,it is white with red trim, and has a glaze. The face is barrel shaped and has yellow hair and a green nose. The barrel (face) does not appear to have been glazed. On the bottom is a serial number and the words "Made in Italy." I have looked everywhere and have never seen one even similar to it. I am just curious as to where it came from and how much it might be worth. My mother bought it in a junk store in the 1960's and it was old then. Any clues? It has a crack in the lid that has been glued back together - which I know sucks, but I am not really interested in selling - just knowing what it is and how much it might have been worth.

Hi Kelly, Without more information like a photo or a description of the material the pill box is made from (silver or gold), its pretty much impossible to narrow down a price range on your pill box. I've seem gold and silver pill boxes sell for thousands of dollars from the era and I've also seen simple tin ones sell for around $10 dollars.
