Description

1839-1843 transition piece, we suspect. This beautiful British musket came to us from England in 1985. The overall measurement is 55″ with a barrel length of 40″. The calibration is .75. The firearm is percussion, fixed sights, slotted ramrod. The three banded musket features beautiful blueing with brass appointments (nose cap, butt plate, sling swivels, trigger guard, and lock plate screw bolsters. The barrel bore is very nice.
We acquired this in 1985 from a returning U.S. Air Force Msgt who had maintained an off-duty job in one of the English gun shops at that time. We have used it for display in the South Carolina Civil War Museum as an example of some of the early Confederate imports from Great Britain. (To our knowledge, this gun does not have a Confederate history) but what a shining example of the late Crimean War exported musketry.
