Slave tag 1856

I want to know if this slave tag is authentic from Charleston in 1856 the title of the slave was a Porter. It also has the slave number on it someone please tell me if it is authentic or not

Authentic slave tags are extremely rare, probably because when the slave was freed he/she would destroy them, so they wouldn’t be reminded of their forced servitude.

In my opinion, it’s a fake…a modern reproduction, but I’m only basing that on my gut feeling.

Where did you get it, do you have any provenance to back it up? I suppose certain alloys/elements would not be present in the base copper and that could provide proof of its authenticity, but that seems like a fairly difficult/expensive endeavor.
