ParticipantThis is a cool looking Yale lock with a twisty chain attached, it’s very heavy duty and all brass, not certain Bout the chain, i have not cleaned it . I’ve tried to research it but can’t find anything similar. Thank you in advance.

KeymasterWow, yes, that is a cool looking Yale padlock. You’re correct, it is very unusual and I haven’t seen one either. Your padlock is a pin-tumbler style lock that dates back to the ancient Egyptians. Modern pin tumbler padlocks were first invented in 1848 by Linus Yale and his son made some small improvements.

The “bad” news, unfortunately your yale padlock is very poor condition. It looks it was used hard and for a long time! It’s very beat up!
It took me a while, but I finally found your padlock (or a very, very similar padlock) in our antiques archive.
Here is your padlock that sold in the past for $42 in very good condition:
I would estimate your antique yale padlock to be worth between $30-80 dollars based on the one example I could find. However, your padlock might not command the same pricing, because of the poor condition it is in, so price it accordingly.
Thanks for sharing! Very cool padlock!
