ParticipantI have this bras rubbing that I know nothing about and my online search doesn’t seem to be going to well. Any ideas? Is on blue backing with brass colored chalk at least that is what it looks like. Stand about 4.5′ tall about 3′ wide. .

KeymasterBrass rubbings were very popular during the Victorian period in England but still continue to this day. Brass rubbings are created by laying a sheet of paper on top of a monumental commemorative brass plaque commonly found in churches. I believe your rubbings are “positive” rubbings where the original “negative rubbing” was rubbed over with a rag soaked in waterproof black ink and then colored (in this case colored blue).

As far as value…rubbings are fairly easy to perform and are not very valuable. I would estimate your brass rubbings are worth between $50-200 dollars.
