I am moving from Hawaii to Portland, Oregon (too expensive to live here) in 3 months and I’m trying to decide what to do with this framed textile. I love it, it’s very subtly beautiful but I can’t afford to ship very many things, so I have to make hard decisions. I just have no idea how much to ask for this if I do try to sell it. I got it for $7.00 at the Salvation Army Store, so I can’t lose, but a little extra cash would really help since I am disabled and on a fixed income.

I have looked at other, similar items online and the prices vary from $20 into the hundreds. I, personally, think this seems of much higher quality than any I have seen but, of course, I don’t know what the factors are which would determine an asking price.

On the back, it says (in handwriting), “China Silk – purchased in the Philippine Island in August 1983 & framed in Virginia.” It is in perfect condition. There is no damage on the frame or the glass, the textile piece is without stains or discolorations. The only mar is a messy gift inscription written on the back paper covering. The embroidery is so fine and perfect that, it must be machine made (I think).

It is beautifully framed and the frame, itself, is quite special. It is not made of bamboo. It is some type of hard wood which has been carved and stained to look like bamboo on the front.

The textile is composed of several pieces:
~ A large central rectangle of ivory silk is delicately embroidered with roses and other flowers on a leafy bush and flying butterflies. The colors are subtle greens and pinks.
~ This is framed by a 1 inch embroidered band in similar colors.
~ The large outer framing textile has a thin dark salmon colored band inside of…
~ A wide, chocolate-colored band, embroidered with a maze and spiral design in what looks like gold thread and white flowers with yellow centers. This band is pieced together in places and the joins aren’t matched.

Thanks, any info would be appreciated.

    Jeanne
