ParticipantI’m looking for information (age, style, value, wood, etc.) about this armoire that I’ve owned for over 25 years. I’m planning to downsize and would like to sell it. It’s 49″ wide, 78″ high and 20″ deep. It holds garments on rods running from front to back on both sides, has rails for shoes down low on both sides and a shelf across the top for sweaters or hats. The mirror is beveled and the veneer is a straight grain with tones ranging from medium to dark; the pattern is diamond matched. I’m also interested to know if anyone in the DC area is interested in purchasing it. Thank you for your help and expertise.

KeymasterIt’s in great shape and a nice looking armoire. I don’t think you’ll have a problem selling it. If you want to sell it local and need a quick sale. I think Craigslist or Letitgo would be your best bet, however don’t expect top dollar from local shopping sites. Most visitors are looking for values. I would estimate the value of your antique armoire to be in the $1500-2500 dollar range. My age guess would be 1950’s or 1960’s. Type of wood is very difficult. Even experts on wood identification say they need to guess sometimes. The problem is trees and shrubs are designed to be identified by their leaves and external qualities. Many varieties have very similar grains and internal textures. I would call the style modern.
