Shirley Fischer of Sylvania, Ohio was so distinguished in the paper doll field that in 2004, having collected paper dolls most of her adult life, she befittingly received the special award of Distinguished Paper Doll Ambassador at the annual Paper Doll Convention. This collection spans 150 years, from 1790 through the 1940s. It is likely that few collections exist today with the extent of early historical rarities as the Fischer Collection. The collection includes early dolls from Germany, France and England and virtually all of the early American paper There are, in fact, over 350 lots in the catalog, including many paper dolls to be sold in lots, giving opportunity to connoisseur collectors, novices and paper doll and ephemera dealers, as well as traditional doll collectors who have learned the value of paper dolls as costume study. 1880 Patent Washable Paper Mache Doll


1880 Patent Washable Paper Mache Shoulder head doll. This is a wonderful early doll 1880 with a paper mache shoulder head on the original cloth gusset jointed body. The doll has the original and incredible blonde human hair wig in long ringlet curls. She has set glass blue paperweight eyes. There is no repairs or repainting on the doll. She is wearing white underwear and a wonderful deep maroon cotton dress all the right age to the doll, the socks and shoes are newer replacements.

Josephine Baker doll the doll is 16 inches she has a cruder bisque that is fired, the head is a shoulder head sewn on to a polished brown cotton body, she is jointed at the arms the legs are not jointed. The doll is wearing a gold skirt with silk green leaves and crepe paper bananas, and gold bracelets and necklaces. The doll has very heavily painted makeup, eyeliner especially. She is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. There are no markings on the doll.
