Corn Husk Lady Doll 1890 New England


Corn Husk Lady doll 11 inches. This is a very early corn husk doll made in 1890. The doll was made in New England. An identical doll to this one is pictured in the old book the Knopf Collectors Guides to American Antiques Dolls 1983. The dolls body is stuffed with cotton, the Costume is a short cape tied with a bow, over the dress with bustle and leg of mutton sleeves, Stylish bonnet has ribbons of shredded husk, and carries a cornhusk umbrella. The doll was fashioned after a fashion type doll. This doll was mentioned in Connoisseur magazine in the 1930ís and was at that time dated to the late 19th century. S picture of another doll identical to this one was in the book by Lewis Sorensen Doll Scrapbook published in 1976. The doll is in excellent condition and is in a box that most likely was the original box that it came in. It is a wonderful early American folk doll. Plus 2 later corn husk dolls.
