His father was a successful and important Art Nouveau furniture & jewelry designer who also worked in silver metalware. As such, Bugatti grew up in an environment where a great many of his parents friends were from the artistic world. In 1902, the family moved to Paris. Considered one of the best animal sculptors of all time, Rembrandt Bugatti (1884-1914) was a son of the fabled family best known today for extraordinary automobile and furniture design.Bugatti began exhibiting his works in the early 1900s, joining the major Paris gallery and foundry of A.A. Hebrard. He enjoyed periods of success, which included praise from sculptor Rodin.He produced a number of bronzes which were successfully exhibited by Hébrard. Bugattis love of nature led to him spending a great deal of time at a Paris zoo where he studied the features and movement of exotic animals. His sculptures of animals such as elephants, panthers and lions became his most valuable and popular works. The silver elephant mascot that sits on top of the radiator of the Bugatti Royale was cast from one of Rembrandts original sculptures. Bugatti died In 1916, at the age of 31.
